Can exercises help bunions on the feet?

Bunions are an enlargement of the great toe or hallux joint on the feet which is almost always associated with the change in the position of the great toe or hallux. They are very widespread. It may or might not be painful and it hardly ever appears good and in most cases poses a difficulty for the fitting of shoes. They do are inclined to be inherited and could be the result of wearing footwear which might be too restricted. These are more prevalent in women which could be due to the type of footwear. They are often painful inside the joint due to arthritis like symptoms and they also may be painful from pressure from the shoe on the enlarged joint.

Could exercises improve bunions? They might be capable of, but they are unlikely to help make the bony enlargement disappear and they might help improve the angle of the big toe or hallux a little. The only way to make the bunion go away is with surgery. No amount of exercising is will make that go away. The amount of pressure creating the bunion and resulting in the big toe or hallux to deviate way is greater than what any exercise is likely to reverse. On the other hand, with that said, the exercises which you often see suggested are still probably worth carrying out since they will help keep your joint mobile and flexible which is a good thing. That increase in the range of motion of the joint could go a long way to assisting pain that often develops inside the joint. The sort of bunion exercises that will be most helpful are the ones that stretch and move the joints through its full range of motion in all directions. Sometimes exercises that can strengthen the arch muscles of the feet can also be useful. Even when surgery is used, the exercises before and after the surgery will help with the rehabilitation.
